Besides uploading YouTube videos, many YouTubers also choose to help out with charities. YouTubers help out to give back and express their sympathy to people in need. Some YouTubers may volunteer, but many choose to raise money and then donate it to a charity of their choice. Tyler Oakley – “The Trevor Project”

Tyler Oakley has raised over $1.1 Million for “The Trevor Project”. This charity’s main goal of is to be able to provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention for LGBTQ youth in need. Tyler chose to celebrate his birthday by raising awareness and money for the Trevor Project two years in a row because he wants to help young LGBTQ have the support that they need in order to succeed in life. Tyler is known as the main figure of “The Trevor Project” and contributes a large amount of his time and money to help this charity. His campaign became a huge success and became one of the most well-known examples of YouTuber’s donating to charity.

 

PewDiePie- “Charity: Water”

 

The YouTuber PewDiePie has raised millions of dollars for different charities around the world. One of the main charities that he raises money for is “Charity: Water” which is an organization that provides clean and safe drinking water for individuals in developing countries. Also, his donations have helped over 10,000 Rwandans receive clean drinking water and improved their lives greatly. PewDiePie is 1 out of 25 partners that have helped and worked with “Charity: Water”. In total, this charity has helped fund over 24,000 different projects to allow individuals to access to clean water.

 

Markiplier- “Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance”

Markiplier is a well-known gamer on YouTube and also donates a lot of money to various charities. One of these, in particular, is “Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance”. This charity helps aid individuals who are suffering from mental illnesses such as Depression and Bipolar Disorder by providing support to individuals who are suffering and also to their friends and family as well. In total, Markiplier has donated over $276,000 to this charity by hosting his monthly charity live streams which generate a large amount of money. The length of this stream was over 8 hours long and raised the most money compared to other charities that he was raising money for through his live streams.

John & Hank Green

Brothers, John and Hank Green also have an annual fundraising event called Project for Awesome to raise money for charities. This event has been taking place since 2007 and has been very successful ever since. YouTubers are told to make a video about a charity that is meaningful to them and share it around the internet. Then, fans vote on their favorite videos through the website for Project For Awesome. Also, John and Hank Green host a 48-hour live stream to raise additional money. Last year, they raised over 2 million dollars for charities.

 

Jim Chapman & Niomi Smart

Famous vloggers, Jim Chapman and Niomi Smart participated in the London Marathon to raise money for charities. Both YouTubers ran 26 miles with the goal of raising enough money to donate to British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research. Many of their fans donate money to help them achieve their goals of helping their chosen charities as much as they can. Jim and Niomi have raised thousands of dollars for charity through their hard work.

 

Zoe Sugg (Zoella)

Zoe Sugg also known as Zoella, dedicates her time to raising money and awareness for charities. For her birthday, Zoe decided to ask her fans to donate money to the charity called Mind. This organization promotes awareness for mental health issues and provides assistance for individuals suffering from mental illnesses. Zoe dealt with her own mental health problems in the past so she is now an advocate for mental health issues. Because of her birthday wish, Zoella was able to raise a lot of money and awareness for the organization called Mind.

 

JacksGap- Jack and Finn Harries

Twins, Jack and Finn Harries also are involved with raising money for charities. The twins use their popularity on YouTube to raise awareness and encourage donates for people in need. These groups include people affected by diseases, needed support for HIV care and to promote the importance of education to children in poverty. The Twins have helped out many organizations through their fame and with the help of their fans.

Logan Paul

Just recently Logan Paul started a new video format called “Logan Paul reads mean Tweets“, which is similar to Jimmy Kimmel’s  “Celebrities read mean tweets” video format. In the video, Logan read a total of 16 tweets, positive and negative about him. Near the end of the video, he announces that he will be donating 500$ for each tweet to stompoutbullying.org + the video revenue. This adds up to a total of 8500$ + video revenue.

Stompoutbullying.org is an amazing organization. Logan says that by the end of the day we all need to be better. The hate needs to stop because it is easy to sit at a computer and hide behind the keyboard to type mean comments. Let’s spread love and positivity.
