7 Things You Didn’t Know About Casey Neistat

1) Dropped Out of School at Age 17

Casey Neistat dropped out of high school at age 17 during his junior year. Neistat never returned to high school after dropping out. He had a pregnant girlfriend Robin Harris which is one of the main reasons that he had dropped out. Also, he had no real career goals so he did not see the purpose of being in school. Even though he never received a high school diploma, Neistat is extremely successful and is very popular.

2) Had His Own TV Show

In 2010, Neistat and his brother had their own show called The Neistat Brothers that aired for one season on the network HBO. Casey and his brother Van Neistat’s show included 8 semi-autobiographical episodes explaining their lives.

3) Traveled Around the World in 10 Days

Neistat traveled the world in 10 days and vlogged his entire experience. In this video, you can see Neistat running, jumping off various things in famous locations all over the world and doing backflips. He and his friend Max wanted to find out how far they could get around the world with the money provided by Nike when they sponsored him to make the video under their #makeitcount trend.

4) Won an Award in 2010

In 2010, Neistat won the John Cassavetes Award at the Independent Spirit Awards. He received this for the production of his film called Daddy Long Legs. This award is dedicated to independent filmmakers who create a film at no less than $500,000. This award is given to a filmmaker regardless of how many films that the director has produced.

5) Climbed Mount Kilimanjaro

Additionally, Famous Casey Neistat is also known for doing crazy stunts that are frightening to many. For example, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro which is the highest mountain in Africa and is very difficult to climb. Neistat was inspired to climb this after hearing that one of his friends had climbed Mount Aconcagua which is the tallest mountain in America. Despite the difficulties of climbing this mountain, he successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and made it to the top.

6) Created the App called Beme

In 2014, Casey Neistat and Matt Hackett created an app together called Beme. This app is a video messaging platform and allows users to upload unedited videos from 2 to 8 seconds long. These videos are immediately uploaded and shared with the uploaders subscribers without being able to preview the video first. Sadly, on January 31, 2017, Beme was shut down because CNN wanted to create a new project but still allowing Beme’s founder’s full control over the new creation.

7) Went Surfing with Great White Sharks

In 2016, Neistat went to South Africa with his family for vacation. He wanted to create an interesting video while he was there so he decided to surf with sharks. He discovered that Cape Town has one of the largest populations of Great White Sharks and then produced a video of it which has over 3 million views.
