thumbnail

Youtube is a wonderful place where you can follow all your favorite social media influencers, check out the latest videos from popular vloggers and listen to hot new tracks from the biggest artists around. All this awesomeness comes at a price, however: the weird side of Youtube, an online forbidden forest of sorts whose inhabitants can leave your skin crawling. We hopped on over to the weird side of Youtube to find the most shocking Youtuber scandals in history so you don’t have to. Enjoy!

Vegan Gains’ Morbid Family Ties

Notorious, self-proclaimed ‘plant-based health and fitness’ vlogger, Vegan Gains, is no stranger to controversy. His channel has come under heavy criticism thanks to his intense videos in which he aggressively pushes his agenda of veganism to the point of displaying borderline sociopathic behaviors. He most famously got into some hot water after trash-talking fellow fitness vlogger and meat lover Peter Czerwinski (a.k.a. Furious Pete) after Pete was diagnosed with cancer. The despicable Vegan Gains posted a video in which he claimed Pete had received his just desserts after a lifetime of consuming meat. As horrific as that may be, it’s not the reason he made our list today, oh no. You see, Vegan Gains doesn’t just stop at berating public figures and YouTubers, even his own family isn’t safe from his actions. A lesser-known incident occurred in 2015 when Gains recorded and uploaded a video of his Grandfather suffering a fatal heart attack at home and being led away by EMTs on a stretcher. He claims it was an attempt to showcase the consequences of eating meat to the world. Fortunately, the video did not remain online for long after his family pressured him to remove it.

Pedro Ruiz & Monalisa Perez

The lengths to which people will go to amass followers, the viewer and subscribers in this digital age of Youtube and Instagram fame seem to know no bounds. Unfortunately for Pedro Ruiz, he discovered the hard way that infamy comes at a price and that sometimes you pay with your life. He and his girlfriend Monalisa Perez launched their Youtube careers with a channel featuring family centered vlogs and pranks. They soon decided they had to up the ante to gain more viewers so Pedro had the idea to film himself performing one stunt a week in a move he boldly claimed would make the MTV show ‘Jackass’ seem tame in comparison. For his first stunt, he convinced Monalisa to shoot at his chest with a high-powered desert eagle pistol. He assured her that the bullet would not travel all the way through the thick encyclopedia he planned to hold across his chest during the stunt. Understandably concerned, Pedro eased Monalisa’s doubts by showing her the bullet hole from the encyclopedia he had practiced on at an abandoned warehouse. Feeling reassured, they went ahead with the stunt and Mr. Ruiz was tragically shot and killed in front of the couple’s three-year-old daughter in an incident caught on camera that shook the world.

Logan Paul Heads Down to the Woods

In late 2017, Logan Paul proved himself to be a firm contender for the heavyweight title of Youtube’s most vilified and hated star. After ascending to online fame with his brother Jake through posting a series of poorly received and widely parodied rap songs, Logan soon became fodder for celebrity gossip columns following some questionable behavior. This all came to a head during a visit to Japan where Logan filmed a man who had clearly committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree and then released footage of the body online. The move was slammed as being disrespectful and shameful, Logan was panned in the media around the world and by fellow Youtubers; normally a close-knit bunch who support each other’s creations, even the Youtube community considers Logan something of a fringe member, like that one strange uncle who you only see around Christmas with a shady backstory nobody wants to get into. After he was insensitive enough to broadcast images of a corpse to the world and then attempt to make money off the inevitable backlash and apology. We will see if Logan can take a few hits to the face when he faces off against fellow Youtuber, KSI, in a boxing match this August.
